Food Pantries

There are a number of local food pantries available to residents of towns and communities but many are limited to residents from specific towns - please note that this information does not mean you cannot donate to food pantries in towns you do not live in! Often times the best way to support food pantries are to donate money - information regarding donation wishlists, drop off times, volunteer needs, and more can be found on this page.

Cash Preferred Over Food Donations:

The Canton Food Pantry relies not only on food donations, but also on financial contributions from individuals, businesses, and organizations.  Donated monies are used to purchase high need perishable items such as eggs, cheese, fruit, potatoes, etc, as well as non-perishable items that are in demand.  We receive some USDA foods for free, and the pantry is a member agency of the Greater Boston Food Bank.  Our GBFB membership allows us to purchase groceries at the GBFB at substantial discounted rates.  One week, we purchased 2,500 pounds of food for $94!

The Pantry gratefully accepts locally grown produce from our community.

If you are a local resident and have a home garden, you can share your excess fruits and vegetables with your neighbors in need. We will gladly accept home grown fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs that have been recently harvested and are in good condition. Please note the Pantry cannot accept produce that has been purchased from another venue. Fruits, vegetables, or herbs that have been canned, jarred, cooked, or prepared also cannot be accepted.

Monetary donations provided the most flexibility for us to purchase perishable items like fresh produce, proteins, and dairy items from our partners at heavily discounted rates. The Pantry can then schedule deliveries based on need and shopping hours so that waste of fresh produce is minimized. They cannot accept medications or vitamins of any kind, even over-the-counter items. They cannot accept baby food or baby formula. Please give only standard size vs. big box store items.
